Measure width, gusset and height
Paper bags are usually described by width, gusset and height. Width covers the front face, the gusset creates depth, and height provides closure and carrying clearance. Confirm the supplier's dimension order before comparing options.

Match construction to the load
Bag selection depends on the combined load, container edges, handles and the way customers carry it. A bakery order, drink carrier and stacked meal boxes put pressure on different areas. Test the base and handles with the heaviest realistic order.
Consider whether containers need to stay level and whether condensation or food residue may reach the paper. Keep sharp corners away from folds and avoid packing that strains the top opening.
Plan printing around folds
A useful print area respects gussets, handles, seams and the way the bag is viewed while carried. Ask for the dieline before preparing final artwork. Keep important text clear of folds and allow for normal print variation.
Standardising a small set of bag formats can simplify storage and staff decisions. Document which order types use each bag, then review the system when the menu or container range changes.
